![]() ![]() Apparently this vehicle was suffering antenna issues and they just decided to rip everything out. Also one side of the wire leading behind the cd changer was fully removed from its plug on the roof booster side. I was in the process of doing my headliner (goin black suede) and decided to trace my atenna wire down to the cd changer where I was expecting to find as I have been told a amplifier but what I found was my atenna wire with nothing attached to the front and no wires coming from the front. So for my avant I was told the amplifier for the antenna (not the booster that is on the roof with the antenna) was behind my cd changer. I even tried messing with the FAKRA antenna adapter but that didn't alter the reception. Unfortunately, this piece (4B9-035-501) is NLA.Īs for the wiring connections, all are intact on my MK2 RNSE that has been working like normal for the last 2 years. While finessing it around, it seems to be super sensitive and loses total reception. I then put my attention to the antenna amplifier which is right beneath the antenna on the roof. So I finally had time to take the antenna booster apart and it seems that when I orientate the box to a specific direction, the reception gets a bit better and clearer but still has some static. There was a really good B5 Passat antenna troubleshooting guide floating around somewhere but I can't seem to find it sorry! Thanks again. Then double check the wires at the back of your stereo. It could be something entirely separate in your car - definitely worth getting back there and just checking your wiring connections. That box I posted is just a switching unit where all of the radio all the antenna wires converge. Hey honestly my bad I didn't read your post fully before to see that you already checked the connections. easy enough to fix and likely won't cost very much and last longer than you own the car. ![]() find someone parting a car and buy what you need. If you are keeping the symphony, the only way to get the best reception you can without adding external aerial antennas is to just fix it. By that I mean I have never had to do any antenna work on a b5, but have replaced dozens of boosters on b6s at $3xx.xx ea. Although they may have slightly better reception than a b5, they are significantly more unreliable. TV too in europe maybe? B6 still use the rear window as the antenna. ![]() ![]() Switching to a shark fin won't help because it isn't a radio antenna. Symphony 2 starts in the B6 body with the 6 disc changer in dash. Sharkfin would be cool, any lucky 2002-2003 B6 owners with them?B5 Audis have a symphony 1 stock. Reception is not improved anymore with pushing on the booster. It is cool you are cool but we are talking about those unlucky guys who have a cracked antenna booster.Īgain, buddy, we know it is fixable with the aftermarket radio and aftermarket antenna amplifiers.įor those who would like to stay with stock Symphony 2 and have problems with the reception due to cracked antenna booster, is there any workaround? The key fob range is noticably better, though.ĭid I mess something up with the wire brush? The metal spring connectors on the booster were shiny, and I just cleaned the terminals on the roof lightly.ĮDIT - so I put everything back to how it was before, connected things out, and try to see if the radio reception improved with pushing on the booster. I connected everything back up, made sure all the clips were engaged, and nothing with the radio. I pulled everything off, put 8 binder clips and 2 pins per pair of clips, cleaned off terminals on the ceiling and on the antenna booster with dremel wire brush, then alcohol. Did anyone remove the plastic cover to see what's going on underneath? I assume something just needs to be re-soldered, but I'm afraid to rip it off: I don't like how the cover is held by non-reusable plastic "rivets", and I'm afraid something will fall off when I remove the cover.Īlso, which of the side connectors is key fob, yellow or gray? My gray connector is finicky, it doesn't click like the yellow one does, but I don't care for the radio. So I did the same as above with clamps and bobby pins, and found that there was no difference in radio reception.īefore trying this, I pushed on the black plastic in different spots and found that the radio reception improved when I pushed on it (I did not use a wooden object, though). No luck, no change in keyfob reception range. Attempted the fix using paper clips and stiff steel wire for distributing the clamping force. ![]()
